General Presentation

The International Private University BAKAYE (UPIB-NIGER) is a private higher education institution of general interest, with a scientific, technical, professional, and cultural focus, governed by Nigerian law. It is dedicated to higher education, scientific research, innovation, consulting, and expertise.

Located in Niamey, in the Niamey I Municipal District, specifically in the ZAC zone west of the BCEAO Recreation Center, UPIB-NIGER aims to contribute sustainably to the development of Niger and Africa through the training of competent, responsible, and globally minded professionals.

History

The International Private University BAKAYE (UPIB-NIGER) was founded with the desire to strengthen the provision of quality private higher education in Niger. It was officially established and authorized in accordance with applicable regulations by the competent authorities of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation.

Since its inception, UPIB-NIGER has been committed to academic and institutional excellence, aiming to meet the growing needs for higher education, applied research, and professional expertise at the national, regional, and international levels.

Mission

The primary mission of the International Private University BAKAYE (UPIB-NIGER) is to:

  • Provide high-quality university education based on the LMD system (Bachelor's, Master's, Doctorate);
  • Train highly qualified senior managers, researchers, and professionals capable of meeting the demands of the job market;
  • Develop scientific research, applied research, and innovation in service of sustainable development;
  • Offer consulting, expertise, and continuing education services to public and private institutions;
  • Contribute to Niger's academic standing in Africa and internationally.

UPIB-NIGER's vision is to become a leading private university in West Africa, recognized for:

Accreditations and Affiliations of The International Private University BAKAYE (UPIB-NIGER)

  • UPIB-NIGER was established by the Decree No. 00157/MES/R/SG/DGE/DL/DESPRI of November 2, 2021, and officially opened by the Decree No. 00273/MES/R/SG/DGE/DL/DESPRI of November 29, 2022.
  • UPIB-NIGER is a member of CIREP (Centre Interuniversitaire de Recherche Pluridisciplinaire).
  • UPIB-NIGER is a member of OPAGEN (Organisation Patronale des Grandes Ecoles du Niger).
  • UPIB-NIGER is a member of the Forum of Private Institutions of Niger.

Academic Organization

UPIB-NIGER has an academic organization structured around several educational and scientific entities, including faculties, schools, and institutes:

Five (5) Faculties:

  • Faculty of Medical Sciences and Pharmacy (FMS/P)
  • Faculty of Economics, Management, Law and Political Science (FEMLPS)
  • Faculty of Sciences, Technology and Engineering (FSTE)
  • Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technics and Sustainable Development (FAST/SD)
  • Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH)

Two (2) Schools:

  • ESIMAD Academy;
  • EPSM-Niger School of Health.

Two Institutes:

  • BAKAYE University Institute of Technology (IUT BAKAYE).
  • Institute of Applied Research, Creativity, and Practical Interventions (IRACIP)

Additional Entities:

  • A Doctoral School, Training and Research Units (TRUs), and Research Laboratories.

The training programs are oriented towards the three pillars of sustainable development: environmental, social, and economic.

Governance and Administration

Institutional Governance

The governance of UPIB-NIGER is based on statutory bodies that guarantee transparency, collegiality, and efficiency in decision-making. The principal bodies are:

  • The University Council (CU): the supreme body for guidance and decision-making in academic, administrative, and financial matters;
  • The Scientific Council (CS): the body responsible for guiding, validating, and monitoring academic and research activities;
  • The Rectorate: the executive body responsible for implementing the decisions of the councils.

University Administration

The University is headed by a Founding President, assisted by a Vice-Rector and a Secretary General.

The General Secretariat coordinates the administrative and technical services, including:

  • The Administrative, Financial, and Equipment Service (SAFM);
  • The Central Registrar's Office;
  • The Information Technology and Infrastructure and Equipment Maintenance Service;
  • The Medical and Social Services Service;
  • The Health and Safety Service.

This organization ensures efficient management, in accordance with national and international academic and administrative standards.
